ABOUT YETI

YETI-logo

Bluff City Theater’s Youth Education Theater Initiative (YETI) is going into its second year with Roland Meisler at the helm. Roland is an experienced actor, director, and theatrical educator, who has experience acting in theater professionally. Roland also has a lot of experience in directing and teaching theater. Roland could not be more excited to bring more camps, classes, and opportunities, as well as a full-length youth theater production to YETI this summer. We believe that all children benefit from the exercise of creative expression regardless of experience, background, or natural talent. Theater arts help children overcome shyness and fear and encourage collaboration and friendships.

No child is turned away

While it’s true that some children show remarkable ability for acting at an early age and may ultimately choose to pursue theater as a vocation, many others benefit from just experiencing the freedom and joy that comes with play-acting. We try to foster both and inclusion is a key tenet of our programs.

While some of our programs charge fees to offset costs, we are grateful for the support of local agencies who ensure that economic circumstances are no barrier to participation. Each year approximately one-third of our participants receive partial or full-scholarship support.

In particular, we acknowledge the invaluable support of the George Riedel Foundation which has been a bedrock financial supporter of YETI since the beginning.

While we have made every effort to maintain youth programs during the pandemic, not all programs are being offered at this time. Please check this page regularly and monitor our Facebook page for the most up-to-date news.

This camp is intended to be fun and tailored for everyone from beginners in theater, to seasoned artists The camp will have lessons on choosing audition songs, singing with others, and workshopping each camper’s cabaret piece/pieces. We will have a cabaret performance open to family and friends on the evening of the last day of camp. Campers are all required to attend at least one 15 minute vocal lesson with Roland Meisler (the camp director) although they are welcome to inquire about having multiple lessons, if time provides. Vocal lessons will be held at the same location as camp, and will be during afternoons. These vocal lessons are to familiarize the camper with their music, help teach the camper basic vocal singing technique, and get the camper’s song ready to perform, so there will be as little pressure to perform in front of their peers as possible. Auditions will be held 2 weeks before camp. Song assignments will be sent out within three days of auditions. This will include 3 options for the camper to choose from, and another list of options if the camper is chosen for a duet or group number. If a camper has a song/songs they really want to perform, that will be taken into consideration, however we cannot guarantee that they will get to sing their first choice. Campers are expected to have memorized the lyrics and sound of their song/songs by the first day of camp to ensure that the camp goes smoothly, and time can be spent learning vocal technique, musical theater acting, and other musical lessons, rather than learning lyrics. While we want campers to have the basic melody of their song/songs memorized, it is completely okay if they do not have all the exact notes and music memorized, as we will work on that in camp. (Parents are encouraged to help by encourages reading the show, helping practice lines etc.).

Auditions:
Auditions will be in early June at either Bluff City Theater, located at 212 Broadway, Hannibal, MO 63401, or our new rehearsal space a few blocks away. When we have a location finalized we will send out an email informing all who are signed up for the camp. As we have limited spots available for this camp, campers will audition for the camp. Auditions will be held 2 weeks before camp. Auditioners should prepare a 32 bar cut (Around 1 minute) of a pop/rock or musical theatre song of their choosing, and send a link and timestamp to the backing track of their audition song to yeti.bluffcitytheater@gmail.com or include it on their audition form.

Campers should prepare a 32 bar cut (about 1 minute) of a song in the genre of pop rock or musical theatre under one minute. We will also test camper’s vocal ranges through some simple vocal scales to see what their voice type and range is.

If the camper cannot be at the auditions, please contact us at yeti.bluffcitytheater@gmail.com to schedule a different time, or for instructions on a video audition.

Registration for this Camp Opens March 1st!

We are so excited to announce that this summer, YETI will be producing 4 youth theater camps, as well as our first full-length musical; ZOMBIE PROM. Please note that this is NOT a camp. This is a full production that will rehearse 4-5 days per week, likely in the early evening. This also means while we would love to cast all of those who audition, the show only has so many roles available. We will likely be casting some ensemble members as understudies or swings depending on availability, amount of auditioners, and more. The show will be performed 3 times throughout one weekend for an open audience, meaning anyone can reserve tickets.

This show will have a cast of 12-18 year olds. Anyone in that age bracket is welcomed to audition, no matter their experience.

Please also note that we will send out a rehearsal calendar, as well as a daily call the evening before rehearsals letting everyone know who is called for rehearsal. Aside from certain leads, most of those cast may not be needed at every rehearsal, depending on what part of the show we are working on. Most actors can expect to be called on average 3-4 nights per week. If you have any conflicts, we will try to be as flexible as possible, but please include ALL conflicts when you fill out this audition form. Auditions will be held 2-4 weeks before rehearsals start, to give actors time to familiarize themselves with the material. We by no means expect actors to come in fully memorized, but we do expect them to come in familiar, and working daily towards the goal of memorization, so during rehearsals we can work on ensemble building, acting work, and other important elements of the show that we can only do in rehearsal with actors, the director, stage management, etc. We encourage all to come out and audition, whether they have beginner, intermediate, or advanced experience in theater.

Auditions:

Auditions will be in mid/late June at either Bluff City Theater, located at 212 Broadway, Hannibal, MO 63401, or our new rehearsal space a few blocks away. When we have a location finalized we will send out an email informing all who are signed up for the camp.

Those auditioning should prepare 1 32 (about 1 minute) bar cut from a musical theater song, and provide a link to their audition track with time stamps, which we will play for them over our speakers. If you have any questions about auditions, please email us at yeti.bluffcitytheater@gmail.com, or type your question in the notes box at the end of this form. We will be having callbacks, which will be the weekend after auditions. Those called back will be sent a song/songs to learn, as well as some short scenes from the show. Please note, just because you weren’t called back does not mean you won’t be cast. We could have simply seen enough to know where we want to cast you. All those who audition will be sent an email with the cast list, whether they are cast or not.

If you cannot cannot be at the auditions, please contact us at yeti.bluffcitytheater@gmail.com to schedule a different time, or for instructions on a video audition.
