The Young Playwrights Development Program
Do you have a story inside you?
The Young Playwrights Development Program is a brand-new initiative of Bluff City Theater to find and develop creative young minds in our community who are interested in learning and/or improving their skills at writing stories for performance. It is being offered in collaboration with The Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards which recognizes excellence in the visual and written arts each year. Our program is open to all youth between the ages of 13 and 19 who attend Middle or High School in Missouri.
Regional winners of the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards receive state-wide recognition and are entered into the National competition. National winners receive recognition at the national level and are eligible for scholarships awards of up to $20,000. All plays produced as part of the Young Playwrights Development Program will receive a live staged-reading performance at Bluff City Theater.
Participants will be working with 4 theater professionals from across the country with experience in new play development. There is no cost to participate however we are only interested in working with youth who are passionate about their involvement and are prepared to commit the time and effort necessary. We welcome all youth who meet the age and grade criteria regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or disability. We will provide special accommodation for students with disabilities.
