Bluff City Theater is a non profit theater company in Hannibal, Missouri whose mandate includes youth education and involvement in our community.

In our efforts to reach out to local youth, we offer many programs and volunteer opportunities benefiting young people by enriching their cultural experiences at a local level.

Artists in the Classroom

Throughout the year, BCT works with professionals in a number of disciplines including acting, directing, stage managing, vocal direction and choreography.   When possible, we make these professionals available for classroom visits to local schools.  Depending on your curriculum requirements, we can offer support ranging from talks to coaching to story-telling and creative movement for younger children.  Depending on the production, we can also support discussions in social studies, history and civics.

To discuss bringing one of our artists into your classroom, please contact Gale Rublee

Student Performances

Most season productions during the regular or summer school year offer student matinee performances.  This year, thanks to the generosity of The Riedel Foundation and other local donors, student matinees are completely free!   90 tickets are available for each performance and offered on a first-come basis to students from schools in NE Missouri or Western Illinois. Student performances available this year are:

  • Having Our Say- The Delany Sisters’ Frist Hundred Years Matinee performances February 15 or 16 2017.
  • The Boys in Autumn Friday June 5th, Wednesday June 7th or Thursday June 8th.

To enquire about bringing your students to see one of these performances, contact us at or call during business hours at 573-719-3226.

Professional Summer Coops

Each summer, BCT accepts up to two co-op college or university students to complete their placement with Bluff City Theater.  These are intern positions that offer a small stipend and billeting, if needed.  Interns can be interested in engaged in any  studies that could lead to a professional theater career including acting, directing, technical management, marketing or theater management.  This is an opportunity for aspiring theater professionals to gain experience working with professional directors in a working theater.  For an application form, please click here.  Interviews take place in April for employment to run through August 1, 2015.
