Don’t Miss The Heiress! Opens June 19th.

Bluff City Theater will kick off its summer season with one of the most-award-winning stories of all time.  Winner of the Tony Award for best revival of a play in 1999 and an Academy Award for the screen adaptation starring Olivia DeHaviland, The Heiress is a timeless classic based on the Henry James novel Washington Square.

The story is of a young lady, Catherine Sloper-shy unsophisticated and plain-looking, but born to a life of wealth.  When a handsome young man comes courting, she is swept off her feet and promises to elope despite her father’s threat to cut off her inheritance.  When the young man jilts her, Catherine is devastated but her father feels vindicated.  Ruth and Augustus’ Goetz adaptation explores timeless themes of parental autocracy, personal independence and the nature of love.

The Heiress is directed by Jennifer Stewart, and stars St. Louis native Caitlin Mickey as Catherine Sloper.  Her father, the emotionally abusive Dr. Sloper, is played by John Contini whose real-life son Jason Contini will play the role of Morris Townsend, the fortune-seeking young man who sweeps Catherine off her feet.

The Heiress will be performed in our intimate 90-seat theater at 212 Broadway and features an original new set design by local artist Stephen Schisler.  It opens June 19th and runs for 14 performances only.  A special preview is available on June 18th.  Buy your tickets now online at www.bluffcitytheater.com or by calling the box office at 573-719-3226.

Tickets are $24.75 each, or $89 for a 4-ticket flex pass.  Flex-passes can be used in any combination of four tickets for this play and our upcoming environmental production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver!

‘‘No wonder ‘The Heiress’ has returned to Broadway time and again since its 1947 premiere. Romance, money, lies, manipulation and petticoats: Ruth and Augustus Goetz’s melodrama has it all.’’
