Well it was bound to happen sometime- Bluff City Theater is attracting increasing attention from visitors outside our immediate market.  To date, The Heiress has hosted visitors from five states including Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Iowa and Minnesota.  And last weekend, Mark Bretz, theater critic for The Ladue News caught the matinee performance on Saturday.

But here’s a bit of what he had to say:

The Heiress, based on the 19th century novel, Washington Square, by Henry James, features stellar performances by a quartet of St. Louis actors who make the 100-mile trek to Mark Twain’s home a fulfilling journey.

Under the careful direction of Jennifer Stewart, Bluff City’s rendition is a finely wrought interpretation that focuses on the character development that was a hallmark of James’ studied if staid writing. The two-act drama, which leisurely traverses two hours and 45 minutes, pays attention to quiet details that are revealed by the players’ looks and gestures as much as their dialogue.

If you haven’t seen the BCT production of The Heiress yet, you won’t know what you are missing.  Hannibal can be proud of what we are accomplishing here in bringing really, really fine performances into our intimate setttings.

The Heiress will run two performances per week from now until July 30th.  This Saturday, we feature two shows- a matinee at 2.p.m and an evening performance at 7:30.  For tickets and show information, go here.  And don’t forget Oliver! at 600 Broadway which opens in preview tonight and officially tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.!
