Winner 2015 St. Louis Theater Circle Award for  Outstanding Director-Comedy

Bluff City Theater is pleased to congratulate John Contini who last night won the St. Louis Theater Circle Award for Outstanding Director in a Comedy for his direction of 2015’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at Actors Studio St. Louis in 2015.  In fact, the play won a total of four awards, tying for the most awards to any production in 2015!

This win follows on the heels of his 2014 win as Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role-Drama for his portrayal of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman.

Contini is the director of Bluff City Theater’s current production of Gertrude Stein and a Companion running at the Hannibal-based theater until March 26th and will be returning to direct fellow-nominee Erin Kelley in June in the one-woman comedy You Caught Me Dancing.

Contini is a St. Louis-based actor, director and producer who first starred at Bluff City Theater last year as Dr. Austin Sloper in the critically-acclaimed The Heiress and as Fagin in the audience-favorite Oliver!.

When founded in 2013, Bluff City Theater set a goal of telling good stories well by working with the most-talented directors and actors we could find.  We’re proud of our association with John Contini and thank him for bringing his award-winning skills to the Hannibal stage.

Tickets are still available for Gertrude Stein and a Companion which runs this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m.  Call the box office at 573-719-3226 or book online.
