Katie Schisler who volunteered as one of our vocal coaches working with the kids for last season’s Oliver! is undertaking a bold new challenge in introducing a strings orchestra to her students at Stowell Elementary School in Hannibal’s south end.   In addition to coaching for BCT, Katie also played cello in the Oliver! orchestra and sang beautifully the role of the Rose Seller in the haunting marketplace scene in Act 2.

For more photos, see the link to today’s Courier-Post.  You can help make Katie’s dream a reality by contributing to the instruments acquisition program.   She recently raised $350 at a recital held at The Hannibal Arts Council that featured Katie on cello and Michael Gaines on piano.  Helping out is not expensive- $50 buys one violin for a student.  $500 will buy a whole string bass!  If you’d like to help Katie make checks payable to Stowell  School, mail or drop them into the theater and we’ll make sure she receives them.

Katie and her husband Stephen who designed sets for Oliver! and The Heiress are making a great contribution to the arts in Hannibal and we’re proud of their association with Bluff City Theater.
