Calling all local actors- Bluff City Theater will be holding auditions on Monday, March 20th from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. for boys and girls ages 10-17, college students 18-25 and mature males and females for featured and chorus roles in our upcoming production of Emily-The Musical.

Emily is a family musical based on the Emily series of books by L.M. Montgomery.

Rehearsal Dates: Saturdays in April and May.  Full rehearsals begin June 12.  Show opens June 29th and runs until July 8th (8-10 performances).

Successful candidates must demonstrate strong acting, singing and dancing abilities commensurate with the role.

Featured roles include:

Emily Starr-(13-23)-dark complexion, intelligent and strong-willed, must sing and dance well.

Ilse Burnley-(14-24) Emily’s best friend. Wild child, strong ambitious and fun.  Blond or red hair preferred. Must sing and dance well.

Jennie Strang-a pretty and popular girl who hates Emily (13-23)

Aunt Laura-a woman in her late 20’s-30’s

Teddy Kent-Boy 15-25.  Aspiring artist and Emily’s love interest.  Smart and engaging, must sing and dance well.

Perry Miller- Boy 15-25 Grew up on the wrong side of town, smart, confident and quirky-looking.  Ilse’s love interest.  Grows up to be a politician.  Must sing and dance well.

Douglas Starr/Dr. Burnley- Late 20’s-30’s  Love interest for Aunt Laura.  Appears in all Ensemble scenes.

Miss Brownell-the schoolmistress.  Also in ensemble

Janet Royal- a newspaper reporter 20’s-30’s

Mrs. McIntyre-The woman who spanked the king (mature, British accent preferred) strong singer

Mrs. Bradshaw-An important and haughty woman in town.  Strong singer.

Ensemble roles- for the schoolchildren in the one-room schoolhouse and other townspeople.  All ages male and female.  Must be able to move well and have an ear for challenging harmonies.

Auditions will be held in the theater at 212 Broadway beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday March 20th.  Please email auditions@bluffcitytheater.com to book a time.   Come prepared with a short monologue and 20 bars of one song.

Auditions are open to Equity professionals, non-equity professionals and college students as well as local children and youth with performance experience.  Bluff City Theater is an accredited EMC theater and can provide EMC credits for recent graduates working towards Equity status.
