Hannibal Youth Produce and Act in Two One-Act Plays
Student chosen, directed, and performed one-act plays through Bluff City Theater’s Youth Education in Theater Initiative (YETI) will be presented November 17-19
Bluff City Theater’s Youth Education Theater Initiative (YETI) is a free mentorship program aimed at fostering creative thinking, collaboration, and problem solving while developing skills and exploring talents in the art of theater. Students ages 13-18 started meeting in February to learn about the process of choosing and producing their own show from the ground up. During the year YETI members attended plays at BCT and other area theaters, visited local college theater departments, and met with professional actors, directors and designers. This program is free thanks to the generous donations from the Reidel Foundation, Kiwanis International, Missouri Arts Council, and other local contributors.
This year’s project is two one-act plays: Nothing is the End of the World (except for the end of the world) by Bekah Brunstetter (directed by Jeshua Douglas and Grace Gillaspy) and The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza by Don Zolidis (directed by Jana Hinds and Savannah Jepson).
Performances are at the Bluff City Theater at 212 Broadway in Hannibal, MO on November 17th, 18th and 19th. Below you will find information on both the plays and the times. Admission is free but a $5 suggested donation at the door is appreciated.
Nothing is the End of the
World (except for the end of the world) by Bekah Brunstetter
In the near-distant future, a NYC charter school becomes the first to welcome artificially intelligent students. When a reality show swoops in to capture this social experiment on camera, the priorities and moralities of the student body is turned inside-out. At turns both droll and touching, this dark new play
questions how we reconcile the thin line between our ever-improving
technologies and what it means to be human. Run time is 100 minutes. Rated PG 13 for mature content.

The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza by Don Zolidis
Two battling narrators attempt to cover the entirety of Greek Mythology using audience participation, cross-dressing, and general theatrical insanity. Creation myths such as Pandora’s Box and Cronos and the Titans jostle for space with other famous myths like Jason and the Argonauts. This fast-paced, free-wheeling play is wild, silly and a complete blast for all ages. Run time
is 55 minutes.

ABOUT YETI
This ground-breaking program provides Hannibal area teens with the fundamentals to become an inspired professional in whatever theater-based field they choose. The program can accommodate up to 30 student members and the next session will begin in
February 2017. Meetings are typically twice per month and include meeting professional actors, directors, and designers along with at least one field trip to a local college theater department or other professional theater. YETI encourages collaboration and leadership as the students work together to solve problems in the process of producing a play from the ground up. Because the program is a multi-year progressive, we anticipate that experienced students will help guide and mentor first-year participants as the program matures.
