Alice Toklas and Gertrude Stein in Paris

“To have become a Founding Father of her century is her own reward for having long ago, and completely, dominated her language.”

-Virgil Thomson on Gertrude Stein

Bluff City Theater is proud to bring you this award-winning play about one of America’s most important literary pairs.  Together, Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas dominated modern thought in the early 20th century from their salon in Paris.  Confidantes and friends to the greatest collection of artists and writers ever assembled in one room, Stein’s influence on the literature of the 20th Century is undisputed.

In this beautifully-crafted production, director John Contini and veteran St. Louis actors Laura Ackermann and Susie Wall examine the complex relationship that spanned almost 60 years and made them famous in America and around the world.  At times funny, at times poignant, Gertrude Stein and a Companion will inspire and delight you.
